Are You In Adam’s Image Or God’s Image?

Dear Neighbour,

God is a Restorer.  Satan is a destroyer. There is evidence of Satan’s work everywhere in the world.  Watch a world news broadcast and come away depressed by reports of wars, divisions, slavery, abuse, greed, bombings, fraud, theft, lies, economic woes, poverty, famine, disease, nuclear threats, persecution, murder, abortion, drug and alcohol abuse … this is not what God intended when He made Adam!

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; (Genesis 1:26) Notice how God uses two different words – image and likeness.  ‘Image’ refers to the inner man and ‘likeness’ refers to the outer man.  Adam and Eve had God’s image on the inside as well as God’s likeness on the outside.  Satan, the destroyer enters the picture and succumbing to temptation Adam and Eve lose God’s image and likeness as well as their Paradise.  And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. (Genesis 5:3) Every generation that followed has been born in the likeness and image of Adam.  On the inside we have a fallen nature that is spiritually dead and on the outside we have a shortened lifespan that is guaranteed to end in physical death.  What a hopeless and tragic situation we find ourselves!

But God … is a Restorer.  God’s Son, Jesus Christ …who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:6-8) Just imagine, Jesus was God on the inside and man on the outside! Despite having all power and authority Jesus lay down His life and humbled Himself by placing Himself in the hands of men to abuse, beat, mock and nail Him to a cross to die an agonising death.  Jesus did this so that YOU can be restored and once again bear God’s image on the inside. The moment that anyone comes to Jesus Christ for salvation the miraculous restoration of our spirits occurs.  Believers no longer bear Adam’s image (fallen nature) on the inside but the glorious image (Divine nature) of God!

A second miracle will occur when believers are one day given a resurrection body – we will then also be in God’s likeness! For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. (Romans 6:5,6) Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. (1 John 3:2)

Every person in every nation either bears Adam’s image or God’s image.  We are all born in Adam’s image but God gives every person the free choice of receiving Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour.  This is your most important life decision as only those bearing God’s image will inherit eternal life.  Adam’s image guarantees eternal death. Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the Cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life–no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection. (Romans 6:6-8 Message)

Whose image do you bear – Adam’s or God’s? God wants you to be restored back into His image but He has graciously left the choice with you.
