I love stories, especially human stories that we can identify with. Somehow they help us understand a concept much better. I have such a story for you today.
There was a man who bought a ticket to cross the Atlantic on an ocean liner. He only just had enough money for the ticket so he packed up sufficient cheese and crackers to last for the long journey. Every mealtime he would sit in the corner of the diningroom eating his meagre pickings while the other passengers feasted themselves on the lavish banquets provided for them. Shortly before arriving in New York a curious passenger questioned him about the cheese and crackers. To his dismay he realised that the food was included in the ticket price!
Don’t laugh too long … we can be just like him. There is a lesson here for each one of us. One of God’s names is Jehovah-Jireh, which means ‘God is my provider’.
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
God’s provision is only accessible through Jesus Christ. So you have to be a believer in Jesus Christ in order to lay claim to God’s provision. No earthly father can provide like your heavenly Father.
We can choose to sit in the corner of life as an unbeliever and endeavour to provide for ourselves. The tragedy is that there are even believers who sit munching on cheese and crackers out of ignorance. Ignorance is not bliss, it can destroy you.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6)
Satan would have you believe that you are not entitled to God’s abundant provision. Friend, don’t be deceived. If you are a believer then your heavenly Father HAS ALREADY MADE PROVISION for your need yesterday, today and forever! Provision is there before you ever had a need! Clothed in the righteousness of Christ you are personally invited to the banqueting table of God. Thank God that you don’t have to trust yourself, others or the world to provide for you.
Ask God to open your eyes to His abundant provision – oh, and don’t forget to pack away the cheese and crackers … a banquet awaits you!
