How casually we use words today! Words are like seeds. Consider for a moment how many seeds you have scattered and sown today? Remember, once they leave your mouth they are irretrievable.
By speaking words aloud, they are planted in our subconscious minds and they take on a life of their own…they take root, they grow and produce fruit of some kind. The questions we need to consider are:What kind of fruit are YOUR WORDS producing? GOOD OR BAD?
What kind of fruit are OTHER PEOPLE’S WORDS producing in your life? GOOD OR BAD?
Last year I went for my quarterly check-up. My doctor casually asked me the following question: “You do know, of course, what you are going to die of, don’t you?” I was flabbergasted and somewhat sarcastically replied the first thing that came into my head: “A heart attack!” “Yes.” He replied. Based on my high levels of inflammation in my body this is the prediction of the medical world for me.
Now I know that words become self-fulfilling prophecies and I rejected those words immediately. I understand that both faith and fear are ‘connectors.’ That which I fear will come upon me and God does not want us to walk in fear – I would rather let faith connect me to the promises of God. He has promised me an ABUNDANT LIFE and ETERNAL LIFE. My deathday, like my birthday, is in God’s hands and He alone will determine how and when I go home to be with Him. Death has no fear for me and I am certainly not going to start speculating how I will die. Imagine the state I would be in if I had taken those words into my heart?!
Isn’t the tongue amazing? It is the smallest member of your body yet it is the most powerful. God tells us:
Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. (James 3:4)
Joel Osteen is one of the most encouraging preachers I know and he says that negative thoughts will come knocking on your door – you can’t control that, but you CAN control whether you open the door and let them in!
I recently heard Francis Frangipani use a term that made my ears prick up: He referred to what he called ‘ a time-released curse.’ I have had a time-released curse spoken over my life when someone said: “I give you 10 years and you’ll be ……….! I am sure you can fill in your own blanks with negative words spoken to and over you. Bring it to the Lord, reject it ‘in the name of Jesus’ and break its power over you.
Do you know that your life will always follow your words or thoughts? Joyce Meyer is famous for her saying: ‘Where the mind goes, the man follows’ which is based on the scripture from Proverbs 23:7 and Luke 6:45, respectively, For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good;
and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil.
For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
The word ‘heart’ refers here to the mind, in other words, our thoughts are the forerunners of our words and ultimately our actions! Instead of ‘lights, camera, action’ think of it as:
If you don’t want to go there, stop talking that way!
Wrong BEHAVIOUR simply proves you have wrong THINKING!
This is why God’s Word tells us to RENEW OUR MIND.
Do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Like computers, our minds need reprogramming. It begins with examining your thought life. Ascertain where your thoughts are coming from – there are only a few places to consider:
Ask yourself: Is this a GOD-THOUGHT? Good!
Is this my OWN-THOUGHT? Good or bad? We can choose!
Is this an ENEMY-THOUGHT? Bad!
How will you know? If it is discouraging, destructive, brings fear, worry, doubt, unbelief or makes you feel insecure or inadequate – IT IS NOT A GOD-THOUGHT! Don’t let Satan inspire your speech. Quench the fiery darts that are targeting your mind and tongue with the Word of God. Remember that your thoughts and words give license to God or the devil to work in our lives.
Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy! Who needs Satan to put bad thoughts into our minds when we have our own personal library of videotapes we have hoarded for years! Throw them out and have a fresh start! Spring-clean your mind with the Word of God. Remember, you become what you behold and you become what you think! Guard your heart and mind. Behold Jesus and…’Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth….put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.’ (Colossians 3:2,10)
It is very powerful when we bring our heart (mind) and mouth together in agreement. SPEAK ALOUD words of blessing over your life, over your marriage, over your children. You will change your destiny and the destiny of those around you.
Dear Neighbour, there is a miracle in your mouth…….if your want to CHANGE YOUR WORLD, start CHANGING YOUR WORDS!
